Faculty Professor Associate - Full-Time

The Section of Palliative Care and Medical Ethics, in the Division of General Internal Medicine, University of Pittsburgh, is seeking full-time physician-scientists at the levels of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor to be hired either in the tenure stream or outside the tenure stream depending on qualifications and career track. The incumbent will contribute to the academic mission of the Palliative Research Center (PaRC), the Section of Palliative Care, and the Department and School of Medicine as a clinician, researcher, and educator. Qualified applicants must have an MD degree or equivalent clinical degree and have training in clinical and/or health services research.

The incumbent will contribute to the development, performance, and dissemination of health services and clinical research projects in priority palliative care research topics, such as pain and symptom management, communication and decision making, and models of health care delivery for patients with serious illness. The majority of her/his time will be devoted to research activities, with engaged mentorship from senior faculty and support from the University of Pittsburgh's premier research training and career development programs. The incumbent will also be expected to teach medical students and/or graduate students in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and to mentor students, fellows, and more junior faculty in the practice of clinical research. Clinical opportunities are provided through the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) in the fields of internal medicine and palliative care in both hospital and ambulatory settings.

Applicants for Assistant Professor, non-tenure stream, should have one or more years of experience in the field of clinical and/or health services research; demonstrate the ability to obtain external research funding; have disseminated results through peer-reviewed publications and other scientific forums; have relevant teaching experience, and demonstrate the capacity for career development and promotion.

Applicants for Assistant Professor, tenure-stream, should have three or more years of experience in the field of clinical and/or health services research; have obtained or demonstrate the ability to obtain external research funding; have disseminated results through peer-reviewed publications and other scientific forums; have significant teaching experience; and demonstrate the capacity for sustained career development, promotion, and tenure.

Applicants for Associate Professor, tenure-stream, should have five or more years of experience in the field of clinical and/or health services research; have independent, external research funding and a substantial record of peer-reviewed publications; have significant teaching experience; and demonstrate the capacity for sustained, impactful, and independent scholarly contributions and leadership.
