Position Summary:

The Senior Accountant will perform complex accounting functions including but not limited to, oversight of grants and contracts financial reporting, budgeting and billing for assigned grants & contracts. The Senior Accountant must have the ability to research, understand, and apply State and Federal laws, agencies' requirements, rules and regulations. The Senior Accountant must have strong accounting and analytical skills.

Responsibilities:

Contract Compliance



  • Understand all financial-related grant or contract compliance requirements for assigned programs and support program staff to maintain compliance.
  • Participate in training to ensure federal grants compliance.
  • Research reporting and expenditure eligibility requirements for each granting agency as they apply to each grant received.
  • Meet reporting deadlines, both internal and external
  • Respond to inquiries from the other employees and various regulatory agencies by phone or in writing
  • Assist program staff with appropriate cost allocation compliance.
  • Assist with program level and annual external audits as requested
  • Prepare, process and post invoices to receive contract reimbursements


Budget Responsibilities



  • Under the direction of the Grants & Contracts Controller and in coordination with program operation managers and the finance team prepare the annual budgets for assigned programs.
  • Prepare interim funding budget proposals for assigned programs.
  • Train budget managers on the use of the Sage Intacct Dashboard.
  • Meet with budget managers to review actual expenditures versus budget and perform variance analysis on a quarterly basis and as requested.


Accounting Procedures



  • Prepare and maintain monthly and quarterly reports and schedules as required by each funder and/or the CFO.
  • Review coding and proper authorization for allowable expenses including program staff credit card statements.
  • Prepares various journal entries, including but not limited to, journal entries for account corrections and adjustments.
  • Provide estimates and prepares journal entries to record monthly revenues.
  • Develop and run reports from the Sage Intacct financial system
  • Review and backup to process and post invoices for all other agency programs
  • Oversee the reconciliation and reporting of data from various software systems for assigned programs.
  • Support program staff with development of processes to ensure adequate financial controls


Maintain organized records, to include contracts, billing documents and financial records related to assigned programs, financial analysis, and certain correspondence with funder.

Perform other duties as assigned and suggest and implement improvements to relevant processes and procedures.


Qualifications

Job Requirements:

Non-Physical Requirements:

Education



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, required


Experience



  • 3-5 years' of high-level accounting experience required
  • Experience in nonprofit services environment and working with federal contracts is preferred
  • Experience in contract billing and preparation of budgets is desirable


Special Skills



  • Knowledge and experience with computerized general ledger systems, spreadsheet design, database management and reporting
  • Advanced knowledge in Excel formulas
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Ability to be self-motivated, adaptable to change, and detail- oriented
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Willingness to take on new responsibilities
  • Ability to be self-directed and represent the agency in a professional manner


Licensure, Registration, Certification



  • Valid Washington State driver's license and minimum liability insurance for WA State
