How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:

Provides general, organization wide support for Human Resources functions, plan administration and initiative implementation within designated Center of Expertise (COE) or HR Operations. Maintains knowledge of all HR areas and activities, while specializing in knowledge of one or two specific HR functions. This position works under limited supervision and may look to the HR Specialist II for help in answering questions and completing tasks / projects. Will use discretion/or good judgment in unstructured situations.

  • Content Expertise. Obtains, develops and utilizes specialized knowledge in designated Center of Expertise or HR Operations, as well as maintains a thorough working knowledge of other HR areas and large initiatives. Provides appropriate expertise to discussions, projects and initiatives.
  • Project Management. Participates on COE/HR Ops-specific and multi-disciplinary HR project teams. May co-lead small projects of a tactical nature. Monitors content and timelines; works to ensure deadlines and needs are met using collaborative practices.
  • Product/Service Development. Produces products and services that are tailored to the specific needs of the situation, using expertise to align with overall organizational goals/objectives. May focus on process improvement and identifying solutions. May serve as primary contact for some vendors. Uses available data to proactively determine trends that may result in planning for additional education or other opportunities.
  • Consulting. Participates in consulting processes during interactions with employees and managers. May anticipate needs and use the consulting process to develop collaborative solutions, evaluation outcomes and take corrective actions, if necessary.
  • Business Management. Develops, maintains and nurtures working relationships with other COEs, HR Operations, HR Business Directors, colleagues and external customers/vendors. Generates alliances that promote effective relationships and outcomes.
  • Culture/Change Agents. Supports culture and change management.
  • Learning Measure: Supports learners in the classroom to adopt new concepts and follows their learning journey by conducting observations, analyzing data and reports.
  • Delivers education using various modalities using adult learning principles.
  • Consistently deliver the best in customer service. As a team member, demonstrates respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with patients, families, visitors, and other employees.
  • Champion Carilion's mission, vision and values; comply with the policies and procedures, ethical standards and code of conduct set forth by the company.
What We Require:

Education: Bachelor's degree required.

Education/Corporate University COE ONLY: May accept two specialized certifications in lieu of a Bachelor's degree: AHA BLS instructorship certification and at least one other AHA life support discipline instructorship certification or de-escalation certification such as CPI within six months of hire.

Experience: One (1) year of general HR/related experience required. Experience within specialized area strongly preferred. Completion of a Master's degree in a related field with demonstrated relevant experience may substitute for experience requirement.

Licensure/Certification: None required. HR Certification (PHR, CEBS, etc) preferred.

Education/Corporate University COE ONLY: Two specialized certifications: AHA BLS instructorship certification and at least one other AHA life support discipline instructorship certification may be required to meet business needs.

Other Minimum Qualification: Must possess excellent customer service and written/verbal communication skills, including presentation skills. Demonstrated analytical thinking and interpersonal skills. Must work well in a team environment and have a solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. Lawson knowledge preferred. Demonstrated resourcefulness and ability to work on multiple tasks/projects while meeting deadlines and being flexible in an environment of changing priorities.
