Chemistry Lab Assistant, Part-Time
Hourly Rate: $17.60

The Chemistry
Lab Assistant is a Part-Time, 19-hour per week position. The position will work
on a schedule established by the Chemistry Lab Manager. Minimal supervision will be provided; the Chemistry
Lab Assistant must be able to work independently from written or verbal
instructions and work well with instructors.

Essential Job Functions:
- Preparation of solutions of a specific concentration.
- Coordination of chemicals, supplies and equipment for several chemistry labs.
- Cleaning and maintenance checks of equipment.
- Assume responsibility for the chemistry lab area when the Chemistry Lab Manager is absent.
- Oversight of student worker production.
- Conducting periodic chemical inventories.
- Proper disposal of chemical waste.
- Assist with testing new experiments & protocols.
- Packaging of on-line chemical supplies.
- Glassware and lab clean-up.
- Safety compliance checks.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate's degree in Chemistry or a related field.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
- Working knowledge of chemistry laboratory procedures and lab safety.
- Verbal and mathematical skills sufficient to perform the duties of the position, including the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
- In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
